Frequently Asked Questions
My TV isn't found. What now?
Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network (not guest Wi-Fi vs. main Wi-Fi). NirooRemote discovers Samsung TVs automatically via mDNS. If the TV does not appear:
- Turn the TV off and on once
- Enter the IP manually in NirooRemote settings
- On the TV check: Settings → General → Network → Expert Settings → IP Remote must be enabled
How do I wake the TV from standby?
NirooRemote uses Wake-on-LAN to power on the TV. For this to work, enable on the TV:
- Settings → General → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile
- Or on newer models: Settings → General → Power and Energy Saving → Power On with Mobile
Then a tap on the power button in NirooRemote is enough to bring the TV out of standby — even if you're not in the same room.
On first connect the TV asks for permission. Where exactly?
On first connect the TV shows a prompt: „Do you want to allow NirooRemote to control this TV?" Confirm with Allow. The TV will then issue a token, which NirooRemote stores securely on your device — on next launch the app reconnects automatically.
If you missed the dialog, restart NirooRemote and try connecting again. If the prompt never appears, IP Remote is not enabled on the TV.
Volume won't change — the TV stays muted.
Some Samsung models have a bug where the volume gets „stuck" at 0. Fix: unplug the TV from power for 30 seconds and restart. Volume should work again. Also check if the TV is paired with an external soundbar — in that case the soundbar takes over volume control.
Can I control multiple Samsung TVs with NirooRemote?
Yes. NirooRemote supports multi-TV: you can add as many devices as you like. A dropdown appears in the top bar for switching (as soon as you have at least two TVs). Each device has its own favorites and settings.
How do I set up the TV guide (EPG)?
NirooRemote uses epg.pw by default as the source for German TV listings. You can set your own XMLTV URL in settings. The channel mapping (XMLTV ID → Samsung channel number) is also configured in settings.
EPG data is cached locally for 12 hours, so the app stays fast and doesn't re-fetch on every open.
What data does NirooRemote collect?
None. NirooRemote only stores on your device (TV IP, token, settings). There's no tracking, no ad SDKs, no cloud. Details in the Privacy Policy.
Why does it say „not an official Samsung product" everywhere?
Because NirooRemote really isn't from Samsung. We're an independent third-party app using only the publicly documented Samsung TV network protocols. This respects the trademark rights of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
